Howie Seckendorf

THE DREAM OVERVIEW

Howie Seckendorf was a great man who was tragically and suddenly taken from us at the age of 51 in the winter of 2009, due to a heart attack. He was a successful businessman in the city of Rochester, NH and had a strong belief in giving back to the community which helped him to make his businesses such a success. This was shown in his involvement in several community organizations including the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, the Rochester District VNA, the Salvation Army and Rochester Rotary Club to name a few.

Howie also had a passion for baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox. What a thrill he experienced when he was able to participate in the Boston Red Sox Fantasy Camp and “live the life” of a Red Sox Player. Also, he was actively involved in coaching Cal Ripken Baseball for the Barrington Youth Association in Barrington, NH for 7 years, where his youngest son, Adam played baseball and his youngest daughter, Molly, played softball.

When Howie became the 50th president of the Rochester Rotary Club in July 2009, he had the desire to complete a major project in the city which could benefit not only Rochester residents, but those of surrounding communities as well. He learned of a particular kind of baseball field that was made of a special surface, one where players with physical and/or mental challenges could play. A field where a player can fall down and not get hurt. Where any young player, despite their physical or mental challenges, can experience the joy of playing baseball. He thought this would be the perfect project for the Rotary Club of Rochester to take on.

What a better way to honor Howie’s memory, the giving and kind person he was, by making his dream come true. With the help of Howie’s family, friends, local businesses, and the Rotary Club of Rochester, his dream is coming true!
